26th September 2017 - Tuesday
After yesterday, we decided to have a
slightly slower pace today. As we
were going to the baseball later, we decided to head downtown to get on the
Stanton Island ferry.
We got the subway down to Bowling green
which is the last stop before the green line heads over to the Bronx. We
briefly walked through the park which had been redeveloped following the
devestation of hurricane sandy a few years ago.
We wondered over to the ferry terminal and
waited to board. The great thing about this is that it is free and it goes
quite close to the Statue of Liberty. Both ferries we got had open viewing
decks so we got some decent photos. Although most of the distant views were
still shrowded in foggy pollution.
Once we got back to Manhattan, we walk
around to the edge of Manhattan to the WTC. This is a really nice walk, we met
a few dogs to pat and eventually landed up in a sort of shopping mall where we
grabbed some ice cream.
We then walked over to a place called Stone street where we had Mexican the other day. This time we had a pizza. It was really good, although it was slightly burnt on the bottom and we later learnt that this had upset my tummy.
From there, we met Smiti at her apartment.
She had left her phone at the office! So we headed back for her to get it, I
needed to pick up some indegestion tablets, and soon we were on the subway to
Yankee stadium.
When we arrived, the sun was setting,
producing a beautiful orange glow in the sky. The subway was right at the
stadium so we were in pretty quickly. It’s a completely new stadium, so the
facilities etc. inside were really good. The pitch sort of looked bigger than I
was expecting.
The whole evening was great, the atmosphere
wasn’t too bad, it was the end of the season though so there was still quite a
few empty seats. A bit like the ice hockey the other night. We only saw 1 home
run which I was disappointed at, but the New York Yankees did win 6-1. And we
also saw a spectacular catch that saved 3 runs for them, and probably effected
the over result in just that one moment.
